Author Ahmed Musa,Somaliland's house of elders have been selected (not elected) from Somaliland's communities on the basis of an agreed formula at the last Grand Conference of the Somaliland Communities held in Hargeisa in February 1997 for a term of six years, which has initially expired in early 2003

The house has made several unlawful and unconstitutional extentions for their interest to remain in the house as there are no constitutional provisions which address the extension of the Elders’ term of office.
Whilst in the house unconstitionally for 17 years, the house extended the term for the President/ Vice President on 11 May 2015 for a period of 1 year 10 months, the house of Elders speaker reasoned for the extension "that it is not the right time to hold the election as most important technicalities to hold the election is not yet in place.”. Without specifying any fundamental reasons for this extremely illogical extention.
After the three political parties corrected their differences and have reached a mutual agreement on 26 May 2015. The house of elders has denied their consent and sticked to their extention inspite of public condemnations and anger caused by their disputed decision.
And finally today the most absolute disgrace from the speaker of house of elders on their 56th meeting as he defiantly announced "if their decision of extention is changed Somaliland will not exist", which means "Either my way or the highway".
Mr Speaker did you forget your house was unlawfully staying in office over the past 17 years, without being elected but selected?
When did Somaliland's existence relied on your heinous decisions?
Somaliland will exist without your mental turpitude, and Somaliland public are very aware that you are the hindrance to our democracy process and freedom of rights.
IT IS THE TIME WE REVIEW AND UPDATE OUR SOMALILAND CONSTITUTION. DO WE REALLY NEED THE HOUSE OF ELDERS? OR DO THEY HAVE TO BE ELECTED NOT SELECTED?
